Design of the Week--Don't Threaten Americans!

Each week, we post a limited-edition design, to be sold for exactly 7 days, then replaced with another!
This week...with the 10th Anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks coming up, what better way to show the American Spirit is unbowed than with a kool kollectible showing a classic image of a defiant Uncle Sam rolling up his sleeves ready to defend the American Way of Life against any and all who try to destroy it?
T-shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, mugs and other nifty stuff can be found HERE.

Cover Preview: WARLORD OF MARS: Fall of Barsoom #5

Whether doing Western, Film Noir, or Space Opera-themed art, Francesco Francavilla consistently astounds and amazes with his ability to capture the "essence" of the subject!
For proof, just look up!
And he's one of those rare combination penciler/inker/colorists! (Do you realize how few of them there are?)

Happy 45th Birthday, Star Trek

It was 45 years ago today...
NBC promo art by Doc Savage artist James Bama
...that Star Trek debuted on NBC with the fifth episode filmed "The Man Trap", chosen by NBC execs because it had a "monster"!
(These were the same network executives who rejected the first pilot "The Cage", because it was "too cerebral"!)
"Too cerebral?"  Let's watch LOST IN SPACE!
With five spin-off tv series, eleven movies (and a twelfth in pre-production), innumerable books, comics, toys, and other paraphernalia, and a still-dedicated (some say obsessed) fanbase (one of the largest in science fiction/fantasy), Trek has become a permanent part of pop culture.

YouTube Wednesday: Superman

With a "rebooted" Man of Steel currently filming...
...I thought we'd take a look at the previous live-action movie versions!

First up, Kirk Alyn's highly-underrated serial hero...
Then George Reeves' Superman, who first appeared in the movies...

...and though he popped up almost continuously on the small screen, the Last Son of Krypton didn't reappear on the big screen until 1978...
..restored scene from Superman II explaining how he got his powers back!

...after two awful sequels, Superman didn't come back to movies until 2006 in a sincere, but flawed, attempt to continue the story from the end of Superman II...
And now, a total reboot.
Let's see what happens when it comes out in 2013!

Halloween Goodies for Young (and Young-At-Heart)!

September is here, school has started, the leaves are turning orange and brown, and already our somewhat-warped thoughts naturally turn to...HALLOWEEN, the koolest holiday of all!
We at Atomic Kommie Comics™ have told you about our Horror Comics of the 1950s™ and Seduction of the Innocent™ sections, PLUS the Martians, Martians, Martians™ category of The Future WAS Fantastic™, all of which have kool retro horror-oriented goodies year-round for the older kids.
But what about something for the younger crowd, the tweens and pre-teens, the toddlers and babies?
Well, never let it be said we ignored a target demographic!
We have a kool Haunted Halloween collection specifically-for those little ones who want a slightly-scary take on the spectral and spooky, as well as one for the 7-13 category who want a bit more meat on the bone (as it were).
We're offering Yard Signs and Banners, plus; invitation cards, and greeting cards!
Note to the older crowd, sorry, but the shirts 'n stuff are kid-sized only!
Have a look and order now, before the late-October rush!

Reading Room: BARBARELLA 4.2

After surviving the Excessive Machine, Barbarella ends up in the bedroom of the Queen of Sogo.
The pair manage to escape and free the blind angel, Pygar.
However, unskilled in piloting the alien craft they are traveling in, Barbarella crashes the ship, and in the ensuing confusion, the Queen escapes...
This multi-part comic strip was turned into a graphic album, and then adapted into a feature film starring Jane Fonda in the title role.
Barbarella wouldn't have a new adventure until 1974, when Wrath Of The Minute Eater was published in France.
Two more graphic novels, False Moon aka Moon Child (1977) and Storm Mirror (1982), have appeared since.
Of the three sequels, only Moon Child is available in English in a presently OOP graphic novel.
There are no current plans for any English-language reprints.

Nelvana Animation, proposed doing an animated series during the 1990s, but no network was willing to finance it.
Proposal art by Jean-Claude Forrest
Robert Rodriguez (Sin City, Machete) had a movie remake in development, but it died in 2009, and no one else seems interested...
