Star Trek--The Second Coming!

The trend of "rebooting" already-existing sci-fi / fantasy franchises continues...
Some have been successful (Smallville, Battlestar Galactica, Batman, James Bond).
Some have been abject failures (Flash Gordon).
Some never got past the tv pilot stages (Lone Ranger, Lost in Space, Time Tunnel.)
(Note: Neither Doctor Who nor Superman Returns are reboots!
Dr Who is a continuation of the old series and Superman Returns was a sequel to Superman II, ignoring III & IV, and probably Supergirl.)
Jury's out on Star Trek, until I see it...
Interesting to note Nyota Uhura is given the third slot normally-allocated to McCoy. Hopefully, she'll have more to do than just "opening hailing frequencies"...
(We'll be covering Nyota Uhuras past and present in upcoming Fantastic Femmes entries!)

Fantastic Femmes--Joan Severance

Yet another model turned actress, Joan managed to go from doing high-profile national advertising campaigns to a critically-acclaimed recurring role as a villainess on the WiseGuy tv series within six months after changing careers!
Her credits since are mostly genre roles, including some rather physically-demanding stunt work!
(She's also appeared sans garb in a number of films, both genre and non-genre...)
Joan's also moved behind the camera, handling co-producing duties on several of the films she's appeared in!
Genre appearances include...
Lost Gold of Khan (Cora)
Wicked, Wicked Games (Anna Whitman)
Born (Dr. Sammael)
CSI: Miami "Money Plane"
She Spies "Love Kills"
Mystery Woman (Mary Stenning)
Cause of Death (Angela Carter)

The only dedicated site I could find for Joan features, shall we say, age-inappropriate photos, so I won't list it here. Of course, if you were to e-mail me... ;-)
Other actresses to play Bridget Gregory include...
Linda Fiorentino in Last Seduction
Other actresses to play Black Scorpion aka Darcy Walker include...
Michelle Lintel (Adult Darcy) and Elizabeth Huett (Young Darcy) in Roger Corman's Black Scorpion

Fantastic Femmes--Kasi Lemmons

Sometimes you know right off the bat what you were meant to do.
Sometimes you have to ease into it via a related field.
Such is the case of Kasi Lemmons, a good actress with a number of supporting and guest-star credits (including genre work) who seemed destined to be a steadily-working actress, but never quite achieving lead roles or stardom.
But, she discovered her true talent was not performing other people's words and ideas, but creating the script herself and directing others to perform it!
Kasi's achived box-office success and won numerous awards writing and / or directing hit films including Eve's Bayou, The Caveman's Valentine, and Talk to Me.
Though it's been awhile since she last appeared on-screen, her creativity and talents make her, most definitely, a Fantastic Femme (and maybe she'll write / direct a genre film in the near future)!
Genre appearances include...
OverRide
Walker: Texas Ranger "Night of the Gladiator"
Clive Barker's CandyMan (Bernadette Walsh aka Bernie)
Murder She Wrote "Survivor"
Under Cover "Sacrifices"
Vampire's Kiss (Jackie)
Silence of the Lambs (Trainee Ardelia Mapp)
Equalizer "Day of the Covenant"
Spenser for Hire / A Man Called Hawk (Lois)
11th Victim aka Lakeside Killer (Hostage)

I was unable to find any dedicated pages to the lovely lady. ;-(
If you know of one, tell me and I'll list it! ;-)
